Lawrence area gets National Register listings with environs rules
National Register listings were posted July 14 by the National Park Service, with city officials only learning Monday. The listings place “environs” restrictions within 500 feet of the properties and require review for any building permit activity in those districts. Local officials and developers weighed the impact on preservation and tourism, noting the change boosts neighborhood protection and historic appeal while offering limited broader impact on future heritage designation efforts.
