Five Mile Swim Aids Stranded Fishing Party

Monroe Michigan AP reports 14 year old Dennis Churchill swam more than five miles through rough Lake Erie waters to reach shore and assist a fishing party after their 14 foot boat capsized in a squall. James Bomin Sr James Jr William Monday and Denis Churchill were aboard. Laney disappeared. Coast Guard Toledo unit responded to the distress. Dennis Churchill swam to shore after reaching the Raisin River mouth as the others clung to the overturned boat.

Man From McPherson Injured in 15-Foot Fall

A 19 year old McPherson man, John Brockway, fell 15 feet from a silo under construction on the Gene Plummer farm near Perry. He suffered a fractured hip and a concussion and was treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital before being moved to the Kansas University Medical Center in Fair conditions.

Zanuck Named President of 20th Century Fox in Studio Shakeup

Darryl F. Zanuck began his first full day as president of 20th Century Fox with a call for sweeping reforms to return the studio to profitability. The veteran producer, 59, succeeds Spyros Skouras effective immediately after being elected on Wednesday night as the largest Fox stockholder.

Kansas University Names New Lutheran Campus Minister

Rev. David G. Johnson chosen as campus minister for KU Lutherans. He will move to Lawrence with his family Aug 1, reside at 1506 Crescent Dr parsonage purchased by the Lutheran Student Foundation of Kansas. Johnson, a Augustana College and Luther Seminary graduate, previously pastored Trinity Lutheran Church in Fowler Colorado for two years.

Colby Man Charged in Embezzlement Case

Robert L Armstrong, 29, of Colby Kansas, faces embezzlement charges after allegedly obtaining 17 580 dollars from Northwest Kansas Production Credit Association by fraudulently claiming two thirds interest in 250 acres of wheat two thirds interest in 50 acres of sorghum to be planted 3 000 bushels of stored wheat and farm equipment. The arrest occurred in Derby and he is held for Thomas County authorities.

4-H Members Cited by Kiwanis Club for Broiler Work

Lawrence Kiwanis Club recognizes three 4-H members for 1962 broiler project work at a noon luncheon. Richard Hoover Lone Star exhibits second place, Phyllis Hoover third. KU Camp Hosts Bartlesville Music Donor and Camp Highlights

Heard in Lawrence G. Howard Lockwood of Bartlesville Oklahoma who donated his 550 title music library to Kansas University spends a week at the KU Midwest ern Music and Art Camp. Professor Russell Wiley estimates the collection value near 9000 dollars and says KU received it in February. Eight Midwestern Camp students performed at the Kiwanis Club luncheon with soloists Carol Wilcox Dave Bloom Larry Salmon Sharon Popp accompanied by KU staff led by Wiley. Prairie Village teen-ager pleads innocent in Turnpike wreck

Patrick Desmond Curran 18 of Prairie Village pleaded innocent in Leavenworth City Court to negligent homicide and open bottle charges related to a July Turnpike crash that killed four teens from Kansas City area. A hearing is set for Aug 24. Curran is free on a $1,000 bond.
