Nudists Arrive for Midwest Sunbathing Convention

About 700 nudists descended on Sycamore Hollow west of Lawrence for the Midwest Sunbathing Association opening. They will elect a new president and a beauty queen as renovations at the 100 acre camp include tennis facilities a swimming area and a natural lake. Local Resident Gloria Larrabee Dies in Kansas City Hospital

Lawrence resident Mrs. Gloria Larrabee died early today in a Kansas City hospital after apparently collapsing on a sidewalk in North Kansas City about 9 30 p m Tuesday. Police Lt. Carl Koonce said the exact cause of death was being determined. She had three children and worked at Centron.

Kennedy Berlin stance draws broad congressional backing

Senate and House leaders from both parties praised President Kennedy for a firm warning to Russia over Berlin. They backed his request for 3.454 billion dollars in new defense spending to boost military strength by 217000 personnel and funds for civilian defense shelters. Some urged offsetting costs by delaying domestic programs and delaying tax increases, while critics urged restraint and belt tightening.

David 4 and Cynthia 1 were naturalized in Wichita joining Capt. Stuart F. Martin and his wife in adopting Germany born orphans. The Martins, KU graduate and Army veteran, plan a future tour in Fort Leavenworth and a pipeline project in France after duty. The naturalization ceremony was administered by Judge Delmas C. Hill.

Kennedy outlines six point plan to bolster Western defense

President Kennedy calls for a worldwide strength boost beyond the Berlin crisis with a six item program. He asks Congress for 3.248 billion dollars for military forces plus 207 million for civil defense and a 125000 increase in Army strength to 1 million. The Navy and Air Force would gain 29000 and 63000 active duty posts respectively, while draft calls could be doubled and tripled and reserves activated. He also plans to retain and reactivate ships and planes and to procure nonnuclear weapons and ammunition totaling about 1.8 billion.
