Miles Landing Not Selected Amid Washington Plan Shifts

Washington July 26 The War Department did not expect Miles to land near Ponce as reports suggested but acknowledges he controls his movements and may have gained access to new information since plans for the Porto Rico campaign were altered. Officials expect a communication from Miles soon and indicate he could delay actions until the coast is clear.

Gen King to command the next Manila expedition likely aboard the Arizona or Scandia. Guantanamo Cuba July 26 The Practice reports Spanish gunboat Gandevel sunk near Calmanera last night. The act seen as breach of surrender terms as food has been sent by the United States navy to Calmanera. No Porto Rico news. Col Ewers arrived with two of Vural's officers to receive Spanish troop surrender at Guantanamo and Calmanera. calomel expected to return. 1700 Spanish troops in GuanNam district on the night.
