Lawrence police investigate aggravated assault reported by 36 year old woman
Lawrence police investigate an aggravated assault after a 32 year old man discharged a handgun following an argument around 10 p.m. Monday in the 3100 block of West 22nd Street. The victim, who was not injured, knew the suspect. Police were also called to Greens at Alvamar for three teens attempting to break a vending machine, resulting in two 13 year olds detained and a third 15 year old suspect sought. An Ottawa company reported at least $2,000 damage to excavating equipment on Harvard Road. A 22 year old man reported the theft of a 1977 gold Oldsmobile Delta 88 valued at $1,000 from West 24th Street. Emergency calls include several fire and medical responses in Douglas County. The Journal-World notes it does not print all police reports and protects victims’ identities.

Second lawsuit filed over fatal Cat Tracker accident
Lawrence AP reports a second lawsuit has been filed in Douglas County District Court over the Novi 18 incident that killed John Green and seriously injured Chris Orr. Orr alleges owners and driver allowed riders on the upper deck of the Cat Tracker bus during a game trip to Kansas State University, with no warnings or barricades. He names owners Robert Pottroff and Larry McBee and driver Brent Simpson as defendants, following Green’s widow filing a wrongful death suit earlier this month.

John D Lawyer 77 of Lawrence died Tuesday July 24 2007 at Hillside Village Nursing Home De Soto. Services set at 2 pm Friday at Rumsey Yost Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. He was born December 28 1929 in Concordia and worked as a printer at Concordia Blade Empire Allen Press and KU Print Shop. He was a World War II National Guard veteran and a Democratic supporter. He married Bonnie Jean Vanek in Concordia November 21 1949. she survives with his mother Dorothy Sawyer Concordia a son John D Jr Topeka two daughters Vicky L Viner Shawnee and Christy A Osborn Leeton a sister Jean Brown Bonner Springs nine grandchildren and a possible great grandchild. Perry police warn of break-in suspect in small town
Perry Police Chief Ramon Gonzalez urges vigilance after three home break-ins last week through unlocked windows. A fourth burglary was attempted before a woman spotted a man on her back porch. The white male suspect, 5'9", about 170 pounds, in his late 20s or early 30s, wore black gloves and khaki pants between 2 and 4 a.m. Residents urged to report suspicious activity immediately.
