Locally Aiming For World Premiere of Carnival of Souls

Commonwealth Theater Corp plans Law rence city premiere for Carnival of Souls with American International of Kansas City working to bring the film here. Herts-Lion of California handles distribution. Herb Harvey directed produced the film shot in Law rence and Salt Lake City. Harvey left Centron to produce it, with profits and national distribution tied to Herts-Lion’s theater release success.

Bids Opened for Two School Projects

Bids for a four classroom addition at Opal Jayne Kennedy School and for a portable classroom building were opened this afternoon. The board of education will likely award contracts at 7:30 p.m. Green Construction Co. bid $39,949 for the Kennedy addition. G A Roberts Construction Co. bid $13,890 for the portable building to be used as Lawrence High School this fall.

KU Preview Draws Record Freshmen In Lawrence

Lawrence attendees listed among 216 prospective freshmen at the 10th KU Preview held Monday and Tuesday. About 1,400 new students have taken placement tests met with faculty advisers and arranged housing with two more previews planned. In Manhattan the Kansas State University campaign exceeds its $350,000 target, raising $414,545 locally, helping the school's second century fund as the national drive nears $2.5 million.
