Naval disarmament talks show wary but cordial parity
Washington July 25 AP pledges to curb naval building by Britain and the United States were hailed as progress toward a disarmament agreement. Premier MacDonald announced parity with elasticity, halting two British cruisers and cancelling a submarine depot ship and two submarines while delaying dockyard work. President Hoover said three Seas constructions would be postponed to gauge parity, and he welcomed MacDonald’s planned October visit. Britten criticized Britain’s talks while Borah warned navies are built for war and urged restraint.
