Trains and town notes mix with dam work and theft
Rail schedules show Westbound Southern Kansas trains via Ottawa with arrivals and departures at 11:35 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The town reports trim of park hedges, brush hauling for the coffer dam, a hotel theft, new glassware, a cider case, a drowned dog, a proposed bridge crape for Gen Grant, rental notices, dam construction progress, a Santa Fe cow collision, and local ads from Dailey and others.
Camp meeting draws campers to Lawrence grove services
The fourth day of the camp meeting drew large attendance with warm testimonies and hymn singing. Rev. P. T. Rhodes preached on prayer while Rev. Geo. W. Wilson, an Irish evangelist, attracted much attention for his earnest preaching and pastoring background. About seventy five families camp on the ground with a boarding house run by Topeka restaurateur Mr. Hughes. The Kansas Methodist Company manages the camp post office and store, and Bishop Nind is to preach Sabbath.
