Lawrence Douglas County Planning Commission recommends denial of a 102 acre industrial rezoning along Mud Creek citing premature need and lack of utilities. They also back a North Lawrence rezoning to make a warehouse a nonconforming use. The item moves to the Douglas County Commission on Aug 13.
The Lawrence Douglas County Planning Commission approved advancing a revised planned unit development ordinance to the City Commission. The measure creates two PUD types, residential and commercial, allowing mixed uses on a 20 acre minimum site and tightening final approval to the planning commission while preserving flexibility for developers.

Douglas County posted a 44 percent jump in June sales tax revenues to 457 940, beating June 1974 by 139 708. Statewide June growth averaged 20 percent, with the year to date up 11 percent to 4.52 million. Shawnee Leavenworth Franklin Jefferson counties also rose, led by Shawnee at 1.43 million and Leavenworth at 239 525. County commissioners will use revenue-sharing funds to buy 500 gallons of 2 4-D for musk thistle 100 gallons of MSMA for Johnson grass and a ton of sodium chlorate for bindweed to finish the year. The noxious weed budget is exhausted and the purchases were authorized today.
Douglas County planners recommend approval of Villages Inc for a two house site on 41 acres near Lawrence to care for neglected youths. The plan, moved to county commissioners for a conditional use permit August 13, faced protests from nearby landowners over a lagoon sewage system and water supply. Protesters intend to file formal objections within 14 days, which could require a unanimous commissioner vote.
The Canadian Wheat Board announced a sale of about 37.3 million bushels of wheat to the Soviet Union, bringing total next crop year sales to roughly 112 million bushels. Shipments start in November and run through August 1976 from Thunder Bay and west coast and St Lawrence ports, negotiated with VO Exporthleb.
