No-Strike Talks Falter at Pittsburg Plant After All-Night Session
An all-night bargaining effort at McNally Pittsburg Manufacturing failed to produce progress on a labor dispute with 20 AFI United Auto Workers members. A new session was set for 3 p.m. Thursday as police estimated about 600 people lined the mass picket. The plant had planned to reopen for returning workers, but only eight employees and 12 supervisory staff crossed the line. Negotiations, mediated by Claude Hawley and Pittsburg City Manager William Hansen, began last night after a May union recognition and June contract demand. The dispute traces to a strike that started June 3 and followed several meetings that ended July 8.
