ButterPoints Up Washington July 24
Washington reports that housewives will pay four more ration points per pound of creamery butter, effective yesterday, to reach a 16 point value set by the Office of Price Administration. Farm and processed butter remain at eight and four points. OPA notes butter consumption exceeds the July allocation by about 20 percent of 100,000,000 pounds. The agency also sets price ceilings on wartime gin and domestic vodka, with retail cuts of ten to 15 cents for gin and about 35 cents for vodka. Beginning August 1 refined car clubs may be required for full gasoline rations, aiming to curb driving to work. A Senate fuel committee warns no civilian gasoline or fuel oil increases until military requirements drop, relying on weather and coal gains to get through winter. War Food Administration assures producer price support eggs will not be dumped this year.
