Probation violations prompt court hearing for Gibson
On Monday the court heard Gibson violated several probation terms. His history includes a December 2023 hearing after he was expelled from a sex offender program and failed drug screens while sending text messages to underage women. His probation officer Catherine Darrah said Gibson has since been expelled from Mirrors and was found in a female inpatient’s bedroom, violating facility rules. His attorney said he re enrolled with Mirrors and completed inpatient treatment in Newton and remains in sex offender treatment, though an evaluator for Hope Harbor declined to work after inconsistencies between his statements and court records. Gibson has not passed a drug test in 18 months, mostly for marijuana, and a judge weighed revocation, noting ongoing treatment but continued drug use. The state contends ongoing drug use shows willful defiance. Gibson argues relapse and that treatment is ongoing. He told the court he intends to return to inpatient care and seeks employment and school enrollment to become a productive community member. Darrah recommended probation revocation. Deiter said Gibson has not shown fit to stay on probation two years into a five-year term.

City plans brick sidewalk protection under ADA transition plan
Transportation planner Cece Riley explains that brick sidewalks kept in good condition will stay unless failing accessibility standards trigger replacements under the ADA Public Right-of-Way Transition Plan approved by the City Commission. The draft outlines where bricks remain in historic districts and overlay zones, assigns property owners responsibility for maintenance, and notes a potential return of some brick streets under limited conditions. Commission members urged broader map scope and longer notice to inspect for accessibility, planning final changes for August 15 and a September 3 City Commission presentation.
