Marcos cites 500 plus communists in central Luzon aided by unknown sources

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos told The Associated Press that more than 500 Communist terrorists in central Luzon receive massive help in arms and equipment, including stolen or illegally purchased American made automatic rifles from U.S. bases. He ordered 3,000 troops into four central Luzon provinces to combat a guerrilla band that has killed six people. He reported 62 local officials and former rebels have been liquidated for opposing the movement, and he described red extortion affecting Nueva Ecija Pampanga Tarlac and Bulacan. He said the renewed activity reflects international designs tied to South Vietnam involvement and that the government plans 11 army engineer battalions for civic action at home and abroad.
