President Truman declared world peace prospects are good after a one hour and fifty one minute security council briefing by General Clay on Berlin. Marshall's Berlin policy stance was endorsed, with Truman flying to Berlin tomorrow. Clay declined comment on policy shifts.

Emery Underwood, 49, Lawrence business man, died at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a collision between a Ford convertible and a parked truck on Eighth Street. Wright charged with driving under the influence. Underwood, born 1908, left a wife Mildred and three daughters. Funeral at Congregational Church tomorrow at 2 pm.
The Ku Klux Klan announced plans for a large rally atop Stone Mountain near the unfinished carving of General Robert E Lee. Grand Dragon Dr Samuelen said the event would feature a 42 foot cross of oil and could involve up to 9 000 Klansmen in robes. The cross would burn five to seven hours as 1000 new members were inducted into the invisible empire. Meanwhile Wichita recruiting stations reported record enlistments as 18 year olds rushed to join the army and navy ahead of the draft.
Selective Service Director Lewis B. Hershey named nine more state draft directors, bringing total appointments to 29. Appointees include Brig. Gen. Milton R. McLean of Kansas and Col. Clive F. Murray of Oklahoma, all recommended by their governors.
At 4 30 a m a Metall Transport gasoline truck plowed into a farmhouse driveway west of Worden Kansas. Ray Hayes 34 was killed and Ralph Kneven Shawnee driver of the second truck escaped with minor injuries as both loads about 5200 gallons each ignited and burned in the wreckage. The crash left fuel pooling along the roadside and the flames raged for hours delaying recovery and rescue efforts.
General rainfall covered the eastern half of the state last night with scattered totals at many towns. Forecaster Flora predicted cloudy to partly cloudy skies through Friday with southeast showers, little temperature change, and a high near 40s to low 50s. Wichita set a new pedestrian fatality record at midnight, police cite a jaywalking ordinance. Boston beat Chicago 3 to 0 in the opener of a double header as the Red Sox extended their winning streak to seven.
A severe electrical storm hit Lawrence causing heavy wind and rain around 2:30 to 7 p m. It knocked out power, damaged a primary circuit near the power house and disabled street lights. The river rose to 16.4 feet with flood water receding, while wells were disinfected after contamination from floodwaters. University buildings and homes reported damage including a large chimney at Myers Hall. Train service remained mostly normal though several trains ran late.
Objections led Thoughts county restaurant association to oppose Lawrence residents patronizing the KU Memorial Union. Odgen Jones and Raymond Nichols issued a statement on dining service run by the Student Union for students and university staff under state school dining policy.
