Ford Seeks Price Hikes to Meet Government Law
Ford Motor Co and rivals asked the Price Commission for higher car and truck prices to cover safety and emissions costs ordered by federal law. Ford seeks an average rise of 92 dollars per vehicle about 2.2 percent on 1973 models. Other automakers propose similar increases with GM at 90 dollars and Chrysler initially 180 then 110 per vehicle. AMC expects about 150 dollars or 5 percent per car though no dollar figure was named. Ford notes relief excludes other economic costs like materials or wages.
