Detective Otto Hirsch of the St Louis Decoy Squad was knocked to his knee by a gang member as four youths closed in on him and Life magazine photographer William Gill. Policewoman Celeste Rowne and other officers captured the youths, with two teens named Earl Roosevelt Simms 17 and Eugene Atkins 18 identified and booked for assault and robbery. Hirsch treated for a scalp wound and released.

In Cannel France AP reports bank director Paul Lecre, 54, was held up. A robber attacked with brass knuckles but only seized Lecre’s lunch and a second briefcase with two million francs. Bank employee Anne Simonds, 33, retrieved the money briefcase and ran for help. Lecre was hospitalized for head injuries and then returned home for lunch.
