Judge denies withdrawal of 2010 plea in 2006 Vital killing
Major Edwards Jr., key witness in Darrell Jones case, had sought to withdraw his 2010 guilty plea for the 2006 shooting death of Lawrence artist Anthony Vital. Judge Philip Sieve ruled the claim unsupported and the ruling casts doubt on Edwards testifying at Jones' upcoming trial after a hung jury in the first trial. Edwards argued he was promised seven to eight years but faced 18. Huff testified she warned the shorter sentence was unlikely, and McGowan denied coaching. A sentencing date for Edwards has not been set.
