Army desertion case spans four decades plus notes left behind
The Army describes Charles R. Jenkins as a desertion case tied to four notes he left on January 5, 1965, before vanishing near the Korea DMZ. Jenkins later appeared to defect to North Korea, while Tokyo and Washington discuss custody, medical care, and possible extradition as he and three other former U.S. soldiers linger in North Korea.

Balloon ride ends in chaos as balloon gets stuck above Baltimore
A balloon ride with about 20 people turned frightening when high winds from an approaching storm caused a tether to fail and the balloon to swing for ninety minutes. Four people suffered minor injuries as firefighters helped bring the craft down safely.
Balloon rescue lowers tethered craft above Baltimore harbor
In Baltimore, rescuers slowly lowered a balloon after a winch failed, keeping it 350 feet aloft near the Inner Harbor. In Florida, Aman Havenner, 41, was jailed on battery and alligator possession charges after a domestic incident in which authorities say he struck his girlfriend and used a three foot alligator as a weapon. The animal was given to wildlife officials. Havenner disputes the account, claiming Monico bit his hand amid a dispute over alcohol.
