Portuguese troops moved to partial alert amid attacks on Communist headquarters in Lou rinha and Cadaval about 50 miles north of Lisbon. Demonstrations by Socialists gathered in Porto while Intersindical called for popular vigilante actions and counter demonstrations.
The House created a 13 member intelligence panel replacing the deadlocked committee and rejected a bid to seat Rep. Harrington of Massachusetts. Chair Otis Pike led the new panel with members Aspin Milford Hayes Johnson, while holdovers include Giaimo Edwards Stanton Dellums Murphy McClory Treen and Kasten.
