Bittersweet Opens Week at Starlight Theatre
Starlight Theatre in Swope Park launches its fifth production Bittersweet tonight. Noel Coward wrote book music and lyrics for the outdoor musical featuring Jean Fenn and Robert Rounseville. Cast includes Kathryn Albertson and notables as Manon and Lord Shayne with Paula Lloyd and David Nillo as dancers.

Schoeppel Seeks Funds for Academy Structure
Senator Schoeppel of Kansas said he will ask the Senate to add 35 million 433 thousand dollars for an academy building at Fort Leavenworth to the military construction appropriation bill. Army officials had requested a three story classroom building for the Fort Leavenworth Staff and Command School. The House Appropriations Committee on its military subcommittee recommended against the item.

Expert on Sensitivity Nets 42500 From Tavern Operator
A man claiming to sensitize blank paper into currency defrauded St. Joseph bartender Leo Foster of 42500. Highway Patrolman Jack Inman reported the confidence game. Foster and bartender Raymond Combs were the principal participants. The swindler showed how blank paper could be converted to money, then instructed Foster to gather large bills, later delivering 42500 in 500s at a tourist court with a demand not to open the bundle for 36 hours.

Fire damages Detroit utility room after washing clothes
Steve Nemec, 42, a Detroit truck driver, attempted to wash work clothes in a malfunctioning washing machine filled with 15 gallons of gasoline. A spark from the motor ignited the fuel causing a small blaze. Nemec suffered minor burns and was hospitalized. The incident ruined his utility room and prompted safety warnings.
