Goddard Rocket Work Sparks Worcester Sensation
In Worcester on July 18 AP reports Professor Robert H. Goddard of Clark University tested a nine foot rocket from a steel tower near his lab. Rumors of a meteor or plane crash caused police ambulances to rush the area, but Goddard said the test caused no explosion or damage beyond landing. The nine foot rocket used explosive charges to propel upward along rails from a tower apex. Goddard, backed by Smithsonian and Clark University, says such incidents are routine in his 17 years of experimentation.
