Lawrence to retire bonded debt by following plan
On a business basis Lawrence finances have been arranged so that by following the drawn program the city’s bonded debt will be retired as bonds fall due. The key issue is whether future administrations will adhere to the plan, with serial bonds recently issued helping prevent refinancing, unlike older railroad bonds. The city is applying sound business methods, and it rests with the People to ensure these methods are continued.

Kansas Taxpayers Take On Nine Million Bond Load
Topeka July 18 AP Taxpayers of Kansas via elected representatives have contracted public debts exceeding nine million dollars in the first half of 1927. State auditor Will J. French reports bonds issued by state and 15 subdivisions reached 9,312,875.73 between January 1 and July 1. Various counties and cities issued road, sewer, school, and street bonds in January through June, with Butler county leading in road bonds and Topeka issuing a large school bond. Several towns like Ottawa, Hutchinson, Salina, and Parsons issued bonds for paving, sewers, and education. The aggregate reflects wide municipal and county borrowing across Kansas in early 1927.
