Star U.S. stock markets climbed with the S&P 500 up 0.6 percent to near its record high as several large companies posted better than expected profits for the spring. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 1.8 percent a day after Charles Schwab and other firms reported solid earnings.
Stocks set a record high as UnitedHealth Group led gains with stronger than expected results. The Nasdaq composite rose 0.2 percent while smaller stocks jumped on the broad market rally.
Douglas County commissioners reduced the mill levy by transferring 500000 dollars for capital improvements to the road and bridge fund and using one time fund balance to cover the projects. The move aims to lower taxes though it may impact fire department expansion and partners while preserving service levels and staff pay. Budget hearings for the five year plan follow with final vote set for August 28.
