Poland Adopts Legion Method In Job Drive For Veterans
Indianapolis July 17 The American Legion employment campaign for former service men wins Polish government approval as a model to curb unemployment. A letter from Hoinko Chicago to National Headquarters credits the drive for placing over 560,000 veterans in permanent work and notes early results of 400,000 employed in the first week. The plan included a national census, involvement of civic and religious groups, public outreach, a designated Employment Day on March 21, 1922, proclamations by officials, and vigorous publicity urging temporary work like painting and cleaning up. The campaign gathered momentum as communities improved and extended help through national headquarters.
