Philadelphia’s population reached 1,961,458 in the latest census tabulation, up 187,679 since 1920 but short of 2,000,000. Officials attribute the modest rise to suburban drift and uncounted residents. If all within city limits were counted, experts say the total could exceed 2,000,000.
