Frontier Exits Germany For Dutch Work Force Surge

Berlin reports Holland’s frontier seen as a favorite exit for German prisoners and laboring women. An estimated 20 000 German female servants have fled to Holland seeking high wages, with beginners earning 20 to 25 guilders monthly and top workers 40 to 50. About 5 000 emigrants work in Amsterdam firms and dwellings, and 8 000 at The Hague. Many are from the Rhineland and Westphalia as exchanges operate with Dutch partners. German women’s groups oppose the exodus to avert domestic and farm labor shortages.
