Lawrence city leaders will decide how to use more than 2 million dollars in additional 2024 revenue. Early talks push toward placing funds in a reserve or spending rather than offering direct tax relief. City staff received general guidance during a recent work session.
The Merc cooperative grocer, based at Ninth and Iowa in Lawrence, reaches a tentative agreement to open a downtown Kansas City Kansas store at Fifth Street and Minnesota Avenue. General manager Rita York Hennecke says Lawrence operations would be largely protected if KC project encounters issues.
Topeka Republican Gov. Jeff Colyer and Kris Kobach urged the University of Kansas to remove an altered U S flag from campus rather than display it in an art museum. Chancellor Girod moved the flag amid safety concerns while Kobach called for its removal and Colyer announced supportive flag measures.
Kansas Board of Regents president praised KU for removing a controversial art piece after Gov. Colyer and others called for its removal. The artwork is now housed in the Spencer Museum of Art, per a statement from spokesman Matt Keith on behalf of Blake Flanders.
Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer directed 19 additional American flags to be flown outside the Statehouse in response to the University of Kansas relocating a public art display that features an altered flag.
