Douglas County approves a 95.5 million 2018 budget with a 46.008 mill levy raising 58.9 million in property taxes. The plan adds 1.98 million for behavioral health, 211000 to hire three patrol deputies, and 130000 for a second pro tem judge. A public hearing is set for 4 pm August 9 at the county courthouse.
A semi rear ended a Ford Taurus and another commercial truck on Interstate 70 causing a deadly collision. The 56-year-old Houston man driving the semi was listed as having possible injuries while the other truck and the Avalanche driver were not injured. The Kansas Highway Patrol and Turnpike spokeswomen said the crash remains under investigation and state authorities had not released the driver’s condition or charges. Turnpike traffic was halted with all lanes reopening after midnight.
