Amazon will open an 856000 square foot fulfillment center near I-70 in Kansas City Kansas, creating about 1000 jobs and expected to start in late 2017. Gov. Sam Brownback and Mayor Mark Holland confirmed the project, with the developer seeking a tax abatement and detailing an online sales fulfillment tenant.
In March Amazon announced a similar center in Edgerton, adding to five Kansas facilities. Governor Brownback said the Kansas City Kansas center should not affect existing sites. The company previously decided in 2014 to close a Coffeyville facility, shaping its regional footprint.
The National Agricultural Statistics Service raised its forecast for the US winter wheat crop to 1.63 billion bushels, an 8 percent increase from last month and 19 percent above last year, with record yields averaging 53.9 bushels per acre. Kansas, the top producer, wraps up harvest with 91 percent of crop gathered and a forecasted 453.6 million bushels at 56 bushels per acre from 8.1 million acres.
