Firefighters Guard Substation Fire at W Nineteenth
Lawrence fire department was called around 3730 last night to stand by when a transformer blew at the Kansas Power and Light Substation on West Nineteenth Street. Chief John Miller said firefighters guarded against grass fires while KP&L repairmen worked on the damaged transformer. The department was also summoned when a cooler motor caught fire at Zim's Snack Shop at 7th and N Hoos Miller said damage was minimal.
