Golf Gold Hunters Enter St Paul Open
St Paul Minnesota July 13 AP Over one of the happiest hunting grounds of big money golf strode 125 shotmakers today in search of gold in St Pauls fifth annual 5000 open championship. The 72 hole battle over the Keller municipal links is the only important money event of the summer golf season. Leading the brigade of professionals was Olin Dutra of Los Angeles making his first tournament start since he won the national open crown at Merion last month. Dutra has plenty of competition. In addition to Harry Cooper there are such money players as Tommy Armour Ky Laffoon Wild Bill Melhorn George Von Elm Walter Haren Horton Smith Johnny Revolta Alvin Butch Krueger Abe Espinosa and Jimmy Foulis the defending titleholder from Chicago. The general opinion is that the championship and the top money prize of 1500 that goes with it lie among five players Dutra Cooper Horton Smith Ky Laffoon and Hagen.
