Oa City commissioners will receive a briefing from Hamm Quarry Inc representatives on proposed increases to the landfill charges imposed on the city.
Hamm landfill operators seek about a 30 percent rise in fees for Lawrence trash. City staff project a roughly 7.5 percent increase in residential rates to cover tipping and operating costs, totaling an extra about $1 monthly for standard customers.
The agenda includes approving all claims and licenses, awarding multiple bids for projects including PW1014 concrete rehab to RD Johnson and B1039 HVAC chiller replacement to Chaney Inc, setting a July 27 bid date for hot mix asphalt, and adopting several ordinances and charter measures for 2010 elections, zoning changes, and infrastructure. City crews resume resurfacing on East 23rd Street toward the eastern border with daytime pavement removal and overnight resurfacing planned in coming weeks. One lane remains open each way during construction while the Kansas Turnpike East Lawrence interchange closes for reconstruction to reopen by Thanksgiving.
