Supreme Court rules prison does not end child support obligations
Kansas Supreme Court, in three part rulings with five to two votes, holds incarceration does not automatically terminate child support. The majority allows reduction or elimination only when payers face income loss outside their control, while dissenters argue inmates still cannot meet minimal obligations. The rulings were among 46 issued that day.

Kansas Supreme Court unanimously upheld the state law enabling a $252 million Kansas Speedway project in Wyandotte County. Kansas Supreme Court upholds life terms for killers
The Kansas Supreme Court refused to overturn life sentences for two murder cases. Phillip R. Parks kept his life term after appeals argued a sister-in-law’s victim impact statement was improper and that prior suppressions tainted the case. Sharon K. Carr’s challenge to a first degree murder conviction for abusing and killing her 3 year old daughter Shayleen was also rejected.
