New York July 11 Harry Thaw states he is not insane and fights to publicize his previous claim. He discusses his mother’s move to Europe for treatment and says he prefers she stay there for her own sake. Thaw notes he did not use prison yard exercise yesterday, claiming fatigue and time spent with lawyers.

Gas Gatos and Nick Gatos in a heated dispute

Gas Gatos and Nick Gatos, brothers, quarrelled after Gus attempted to recruit Nick for work at a parlor. The dispute led to Nick's arrest today, with a second court appearance scheduled for tomorrow morning at pollen court.

Guards to join maneuvers at Fort Riley camp

Kansas National Guard company receives orders for its annual camp at Fort Riley with the regular army. Troops depart August 18 for a weeklong drill, returning home the following Monday. Enlistment is forbidden from August until after the camp to avoid excess recruits.

Only Two Witnesses in Grand Jury Probe of Railroads and Oil

Cleveland July 11 only two witnesses were on the stand today as the federal grand jury resumed the investigation of alleged violations of interstate commerce laws by the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern railway and Standard Oil. Subpoenas were issued for several witnesses including M G Vilas treasurer and auditor of Standard Oil. The world moves and so does the Lawrence Transfer Co. Lawrence Fishing Prosecutions Hit State Scrutiny

State fish and game warden Travis met with Attorney General Cole in Topeka over Lawrence residents disobeying game laws. Five men were arrested for market fishing. one trial saw Judge Rillog rule the state law unconstitutional and release the offenders. Other Lawrence cases were to be dismissed in district court.

In the office of Jones and Hosford this morning a party sought to rent a modern house. Two inquiries followed and the firm reports more applications than houses. A waiting list covers a page in their book, with no vacancies. They seek houses or rooms for good rentals and warn vacant properties are in demand this summer.

New York July 11 The New York Times quotes a London interview with William Jennings Bryan disputing Roosevelt’s fitness. Bryan says Roosevelt’s reforms lack a mandate and that a Democratic president in 1908 would pursue broader welfare reforms, differing from Roosevelt’s platform.

A county teachers’ exam puzzled participants as they failed to identify the Andover Band among questions linking Chester I Long and Horace Greeley. Superintendent Bowman admitted ignorance on the term. the Journal remains unsure which guess came closest. Meanwhile a house boat from Topeka arrived and was towed around the dam and on to St Louis, with Bates and seven boys proceeding to Kansas City and then St Louis aboard a larger river vessel.

Volleyball Demonstration Night at MCA Gymnasium

The MCA gymnasium hosts a Thursday program in the business men's class with an hour assembly from 7:45 to 8:45 for regular interclass drills. Neely Okerblad, physical director, will give an 8:15 to 8:20 demonstration on proper volleyball play followed by a 8:20 to 9:20 best two out of three games between KU customer school and the business men's class.

Mrs Christiana Hutchinson widow of John Hutchinson died Saturday in St Louis Missouri of heart failure. The body will be brought here for burial and the funeral will take place tomorrow from the train at 10.

Pay Reavy Fines For Chicago and Alton Rebates

Judge Landis in Chicago federal court fined Chicago and Alton road 20,000 on each of two counts totaling 40,000 for illegal rebates. Ex-officials Jobo Falthon and Fred A Wann received 5,000 fines each across two counts, totaling 10,000, with all ten indictments under review and appeals promised by the defendants.

Milliner Minnie Elliston Murdered in Minneapolis Hotel

The unnamed assailant killed Minnie Elliston of Ellsworth Wisconsin to steal 2000 from her after she checked into the National Hotel in Minneapolis. A Milwaukee man registered at the hotel and fled the scene. no trace found. Conductor NM Riggs, from Elroy Wisconsin, accused by Elliston family and to be brought to Minneapolis for examination.

Omaha dispatch reports Hugh Hennings former city treasurer for six years and Republican mayoral candidate last spring killed himself at his home this morning by shooting in the head. No cause is assigned.

Admiral Wounded in Sevastopol Assault Attempt

July 11 report says an attempt to assassinate Vice Admiral Choukinen, commander of the Black Sea fleet, wounded him and sent him to a hospital in Sevastopol.
