Silicon Valley startup WebTV Networks introduces a low cost Internet and email device that runs on a television with a remote. The WebTV uses a 112 MHz chip from Integrated Device Technology and a 33 600 baud modem, priced a few hundred dollars. Partners Sony and Philips plan to market WebTV devices in September while Vulcan Ventures backs the project. Analysts say it may improve PC usability but not replace personal computers.
