Tick illnesses rise in Douglas County this June
The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department reports tenfold more tick related illnesses in June this year than in June 2012. Twenty cases of tick borne illnesses were investigated, with rising reports as heat increases. Officials advise avoiding brushy areas, cutting grass, wearing light clothing, checking for ticks every four to six hours, showering after outdoors, and using DEET repellents. If symptoms appear, seek medical care.
