Presbyterians split on gay clergy policy at general assembly
At Minneapolis assembly Presbyterians approved a policy allowing noncelibate gays in committed relationships to serve as clergy by 53 percent, while shelving a same sex marriage reform for now. The measure requires approval by a majority of the church’s 173 presbyteries, delaying final change. Leaders warned of potential conflicts with global congregations as debates continue.
