A fast moving severe storm tore through eastern Kansas with wind gusts up to 67 mph. Areas south report power restored by early morning with east Lawrence near 4 50 to 5 am. In East 15th Street three wire spans failed and Roy Johnson’s Route 2 house suffered major roof and attic damage. The Roy Johnson family and visitors described wind as tornado like. An apartment complex in Olathe sustained about 100000 in damage with five of 14 units impacted. Weather Bureau noted no tornado radar indications.

Kansas hunters must apply by August 1 for free special teal season permits. Teal season runs September 11 to 19 with a daily bag limit of four and possession limit eight. Hunters also need a valid hunting license and a federal duck stamp. Species include blue-winged teal green-winged teal and Cinnamon teal. The Cinnamon teal is rare in Kansas.
