Eisenhower to address Congress on budget appeal next month

President Eisenhower plans a formal appeal to Congress upon its return, possibly via joint session or a special message, to press his four billion dollar budget and legislative program. He warned Congress may ignore fiscal goals and criticized delays on gasoline taxes, highway bills, postal rates, and the federal pay raise. The Senate reconvenes August 8 and the House on August 16.

Pickets Continue at Jayhawk Plunge for Integration

About 30 Negro and white pickets remain on duty through the weekend at the privately owned Jayhawk Plunge located at 6th and Florida Streets. They began July 4 and have held a line since, pressing for integrated access to the pool.

Red Cross Board Meeting and President's Cup Entries

In Lawrence the Douglas County Red Cross Board will meet at 4 p.m. Monday in the Community Building. Chapter chairman E A McFarland announced Lawrence Country Club members may file for entry today through July 17 for the 3 hole President's Cup Handicap Tournament and play off rounds in that period. Collision reports and injuries in Friday area crashes

A string of Friday accidents across K-10 near Eudora and Lawrence left several injured and two vehicles demolished. Mary A. Bereiter, 3 month old aboard, escaped with minor injuries after a one car ditch crash on Haskell Road in heavy rain. Two others suffered minor injuries in a K-10 car-truck collision near Eudora. A Palma Finley girl sustained leg injuries in a south of Eudora two car crash. Eight city crashes were logged with two causing major damage at 12:05 p.m. and 6:40 a.m. at 15th and Mass and 10th and Del streets respectively. Medical aid was provided and drivers cited as needed.

KU Actors Ready For Orient Stage

The Kansas University Theater production of Brigadoon sails July 18 for Tokyo, the first stop of an eight week tour entertaining American servicemen in the Far East and South Pacific. Sponsored by the USO and the American Educational Theater Association, the troupe includes 16 student actors, director Lewin Goff and his wife, plus scenery and costumes. They will perform in Japan, Korea, Okinawa, Taiwan, the Philippines, and other Pacific islands. Two Lawrence students, Larry Sneegas and Bruce Gardner, are in the cast.

Col Schiller Shore Retires to Albuquerque After 35 Years

Lt. Col. Schiller F. Shore, long with Kansas University ties, retires after 35 years of service. He served in China Burma theater, helped establish Kunming Infantry School, earned the Chinese Order of the Breast, and held roles at Ft. Benning and Ft. Sill. Now based at Sandia Base, he and wife Dorothy White plan to stay in Albuquerque at 4208 Courtney Ave NE after a 25th anniversary open house.
