District 60 budget seeks 19.68 mills for 1946 47 levy
The board approved a proposed 1946 47 budget for district 60 including Lawrence and surrounding areas. It calls for a total levy of 19.68 mills on an estimated valuation of 17.5 million dollars, a net increase over last year. Recreation funds total 0.79 mills, and the budget outlines major items such as maintenance, capital outlay, and auxiliary agencies. A special election previously approved a one mill recreation levy and a separate building fund levy not to exceed five mills for senior high facilities. A hearing before the state tax commission to seek authority to exceed the maximum levy is set for July 30 in Topeka. The district plans to publish the budget July 24 and hold a public hearing August 1. Several faculty changes were approved, including the resignation of Miss Vonna B. Alcott and new hires: Dale Lemon, Louise Ellis, and Mina Arlene Marie Anderson. The superintendent’s annual report was presented.
