Piano competition tests composure of young musicians
In the Lied Center pavilion a 14 year old from Palatine Illinois plays Chopin’s Sonata No 3 in B minor as nerves rise for the semifinal round of the University of Kansas International Institute for Young Musicians piano competition. Ryan Jannak Huang competes alongside 11 other teens while his twin brother Kyle paces nearby awaiting his turn. The annual event advances toward a global piano camp led by EU professors and experts.

KU Women Help Habitat Build In Lawrence Project
KU women’s basketball players join Habitat for Humanity volunteers to raise walls and paint an exterior shed at the unfinished home site in Lawrence. Asikat Hameed and family will soon live there, with Tania Jackson noting the connection to her school and community. Monica Engelman and Bunny Williams contribute with nail work and painting under supervisor Mark Brooks as the build nears completion. The effort blends team camaraderie with community service and the hope of a real home.
