Rates for Wheat Insurance Listed
Washington July 8 Congressmen learned today proposed government crop insurance would cost wheat farmers from about one to 85 per cent of their average yields as premiums. Sample rates prepared by the agriculture department for the house agriculture committee show rates could run as high as a third or more of the average crop in semi arid western Kansas. The plan would have farmers pay premiums as grain stored for indemnities, with no more than 75 per cent of average yields to be indemnified. The agriculture department reported rates for 1,600 wheat counties based on past production records, with individual farm records given weight in determining rates for farms. Sample rates per acre at 75 per cent coverage include Kansas counties Decatur 1.6 bushels, Greeley 1.7, Meade 2.4, Reno .8, Brown .3, Montgomery 9., Franklin 1.1, Finney 2.1 and Oklahoma counties Beaver 2.3, Blaine .5, Kiowa .8.
