Thirty Kansas county jails approved for federal use
The Bureau of Prisons announced that 30 of Kansas 105 county jails were fully approved to hold federal prisoners. Five jails were approved for emergency and holdover cases, while 70 were disapproved. The effort, begun in 1930, judged jails on safety, administration, cleanliness, medical care, and rehabilitation rather than federal standards.
