Morgan City physician Dr. Thomas Fe. Tiveker reported to Sheriff Charles Peet that James Lehouef was slain at the instigation of Lehouel as his boat crew rowed on Lake Palour de Friday night. Sheriff says Lehouel denies involvement while details around the luncheon for Anteries’s crowd surface amid ongoing inquiries. Topeka judge asked to cancel registration of an 80 10 issue of Scott County bonds amid claims the county board and Fidelity National deceived state auditors and failed to offer the bonds to the proper authorities. St Joseph Missouri July 28 AP J Stewart president of the defunct Fidelity Trust company and his son J F Stewart cashier on bond face five charges connected with the bank failure. They cannot be fed it was drained today. The two are wanted as witnesses in civil cases about the closing of the trust company and continuances were granted as court could not serve either father or son.
Captain Roy Vi Rickard was elected commander of the Liberty post of the American Legion at the annual convention at post hall last night. He is the regular army officer attached as instructor to the Lawrence units of the Kansas National Guard and has been an active Legion worker here since his duty began. Other officers elected include William Egsick as vice commander, Ural B. Eblai as finance, Harrazee and Walker McCain as executive committee members, and Chanter Dinsmore as chaplain. The new officers will be installed at the July 21 meeting. Roy Rickard, the adjutant, will appoint David Melsreath, Charles Holmes, and Leighton Mevin as host delegates to the department convention at Fort Miley in July.
Dick Marmon driving from Kansas City to Denver to set a speed record passed through Topeka at midnight with two Saline and Douglas county deputies following on motorcycles to enforce Kansas speed laws. Marmon averaged around 35 49 miles per hour, stopped for repairs in Lawrence, and later claimed he would meet legal limits.
