The national outlook expects bands of heat across several regions with high temperatures reaching into the upper 80s to mid 90s. Humid conditions prevail in the southeast while cooler coastal areas see lower readings, and scattered thunderstorms are possible in the interior.
A 20 year old woman driving a 1 ton tractor towing a vehicle became pinned when the tractor flipped near North 1900 Road and East 1600 Road northeast of Lawrence Municipal Airport. Fire crews freed her and she was airlifted to the University of Kansas Hospital in serious condition. further updates were not available.
Investigators say a dryer exhaust blockage sparked a fire in the attic of Village 1 apartments at 2411 Louisiana St in Lawrence. Reported around 2:25 p.m. June 29 the blaze was controlled quickly with no injuries. Damage was estimated at 7500 to the building and 200 to contents. Sara Shepherd
A 57-year-old Missouri man driving a second pickup escaped injury and left the scene wearing a seat belt. Six bus riders including the driver were hospitalized at Lawrence Memorial and Overland Park Regional Medical Center, with most injured from Arizona and California. Both highway sides were briefly closed then reduced to one lane as crews replaced a barrier wall.
The Lawrence library board urges painting the Women of Color mural on panels rather than directly on brick due to risk of irreversible damage to the character-defining mural. The board supports the project and asks City Commissioners to review alternatives, while consulting Mural Arts about a compromise.
