Kansas House passes school funding bill in special session
Lawmakers approved a funding increase to satisfy a Supreme Court order to boost school aid and distribute funds more fairly. The vote split along party lines with conservatives predicting fiscal harm while supporters hailed broader benefits for Kansas students. The session also failed to advance a constitutional amendment to shield schools from court-ordered closures. The court warned it could cut off funding if orders aren’t met. Friday’s 9 a.m. hearing will determine compliance with the court order.
