Lawrence Schools Anticipate Enrollment Rise From Virtual School
Lawrence Public Schools expect a 445 student fall increase not from new families but from a 350 student rise in the Lawrence Virtual School and 95 adults in a diploma program at Douglas County Jail. Finance director Kathy Johnson warned regular enrollment will not grow, as growth comes from nontraditional programs and the city’s limited new student flow. Board actions included reelecting Morgan and Robinson to leadership, praising Supt Weseman, approving a teacher benefits package, and noting stalled teacher contract talks awaiting the state Supreme Court decision.
