Wreck of the Sciota After River Collision Near Mingo Junction
A 500 passenger excursion steamer Sciota sank after colliding with the tow boat John Thomas near Mingo Junction Ohio. The steamer went down in about twelve to fifteen feet of water, with up to twenty to forty feared dead and many missing from Wellsville and East Liverpool. Rescue efforts proceeded under bright moonlight as families and local crews searched for survivors and bodies.
