Empty lakeside campsites after weekend rain delays

Campsites at Clinton and Perry lakes showed slow turnout with 75 of 184 sites filled at Clinton and fewer than 60 of 284 at Perry by Saturday afternoon. Fireworks were prohibited and Lawrence police issued no tickets. Rain swollen lakes and rising levels raised cautions for boaters and campers. Officials noted debris and water flow at Lone Star and Perry dams, with Perry Lake at 4.3 feet above normal. Local volunteers and campers persisted despite the downpour.
