Tax Switch Would Save Kansas Business Tax Burden
More than 1,500 Kansas businessmen could benefit from a federal tax amendment sponsored by Sen. Frank Carlson. Effective January 1, 1963 the change eliminates the 10 percent tax on private intercity communication channels. Carlson says it restores business freedom of choice by allowing ownership or leasing of private line systems. He estimates the revenue loss at $9 million annually as a small price to pay for this shift. He notes the tax currently punishes leased services and hampers small firms.
